This past Friday the Iowa State Love Your Melon Campus Crew had a very eventful day in Iowa City.
We started out by visiting our superhero, Cooper at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Cooper has a heart disease and went in for a Tonsil and adenoidectomy and had some complications during the procedure and has been in the hospital for almost 80 days now.
We were so happy to see our Super Cooper and are very glad that he is doing better. You are such a fighter, Super Coop!

After visiting Cooper and his family, we went to buy groceries to cook over 40 people dinner at the Iowa City Ronald McDonald House.
For those of you who don't know, Ronald McDonald House Charities is for families who have sick children to stay in while their child is getting treatment. Ronald McDonald Houses allow families to stay close to one another while their child is getting treated. Ronald McDonald House Charities have locations all over, and they provide beds, showers, home-cooked meals, a kitchen and laundry. They do not turn anyone away because of financial costs, which is very important to families who are paying for surgeries and treatment for their children.
After buying three full carts-worth of groceries, we headed to the Ronald McDonald House to begin cooking the meal for all of the families staying at the Iowa City Ronald McDonald House. We had a pasta bar, salad, fruit, breadsticks and an ice cream bar for dessert. The experience to cook for these families who are going through the unimaginable is something we will never forget and will definitely look back on when we think of our college experience. It was great to be able to bond as a crew while doing something small to help these people who deserve the world.
We are so grateful for the experience to cook dinner at Ronald McDonald House Iowa City. Thank you, Love Your Melon for giving us opportunities like this to help families who have children going through treatment or have life-threatening diseases.
