While the basketball fans of the country are enjoying the thrills of March Madness, the Love Your Melon crews are engaging in a madness of their own...
March Mania
a month long string of challenges where we go head to head against crews across the country
Love Your Melon provides crews across the nation with challenges throughout the semester to keep us involved, allow us to get to know other crews, provide us with the opportunity to win one of a kind products, additional superhero adventures, and other unique visits and prizes. Challenges normally take place about once a month, but there are special occurrences throughout the semester that crews will have a handful of challenges to complete in a short time frame. March is always one of the craziest times of the year, and we always have such a fun time with it!
SUPERHERO FAMILY CHALLENGE:
For this challenge, Love Your Melon was working on finding families we had not reached yet. They asked crews find unique ways to reach out and find new families. Our crew reached out to our amazing Volunteer Crew and were able to find 2 new families for this challenge. One of the families our volunteer knew has become one of our families from this challenge, and our first adventure for their little girl is set for the middle of May. We’ll be throwing a princess party for her and her sisters, and we cannot wait!
WE’VE GOT SPIRIT YES WE DO:

This challenge was focused on getting our crew pumped up. We were asked to create a slogan, motto, cheer, or chant to pump each other while preparing for the rest of the challenges! We were fortunate enough to be able to include one of our awesome superheroes on his birthday, and one of our crew members had a great idea to mimic the “Hillshire Farms, Go Meat!” chant that replaced the words to go "When I say cancer, you say sucks!" "Cancer!" "Sucks!" "Cancer!" "Sucks!" "Go Love Your Melon!"
STARTING LINE-UP STARS:
We almost always have a challenge that revolves around highlighting a MVP crew member! This semester, we chose our wonderful Volunteer Coordinator, Carley Lynch! Carley has been on the crew for almost 2.5 years and been our VC for 1.5 years! She is the most outgoing, genuine, caring human you’ll ever meet. She puts so much time and love in our crew, and we figured it was time to let her shine!
HOMETOWN HEROES:
This challenge gave us the opportunity to give back to our community and volunteer! One of our crew members, Cassidy Welch, is the president of the CyServe Council. She puts so much time and effort into her position, and she talks about it all the time because of how much it means to her. We knew this would be a perfect opportunity to complete a challenge while supporting Cassidy - a few of us attended Cookies for a Cause and dropped off canned food for one of CyServe’s events in March.
3-POINTER PROS:

One of our biggest goals as LYM Campus Crews is to spread the word of Love Your Melon - a lot of people are misinformed about what we actually do. This challenge’s goal was to help all our crews with that! We were asked to create three unique and educational points to share in a unique way to our communities to give a little more insight as to what LYM is and what we do.
MADE IN THE USA:
In place of one of our weekly meetings, we wandered around all of Ames taking photos with every Cy Statue possible. This challenge asked us to have a photo shoot that showcased our school pride - and what better represents ISU than the Cy Statues? We also printed out posters to show what our crew had accomplished this semester! Some fun facts that we would like everyone to know about ISU LYM CREW are:
121 Influencers, 5 million reached
One Hospital Visit, 200 Hats Donated
15 new Be The Match Donors
7 Superhero Visits
6 Superheros Fighting
2 Angels Gained
6,154 Follow Our Story
This year, our crew turns 4 years old
Our entire crew originated from the Volunteer Crew
#5 in the nation
#3 in the midwest
This challenge asked us to look to our creative side and find something fun for our superheroes to create when we go visit them! And what superhero doesn’t love to color? None that we know of! A former crew member of ours, Caroline Richardson, always came up with the cutest coloring pages to give to our little superheroes; for this challenge, we took it one step further...an entire coloring book!! There is so much more to LYM than beanies and campus crews, and with The ABC’s of Love Your Melon coloring book, you can see and color all that LYM has to offer. From adventures to partners, this coloring book has it all!
We have so many fun events the rest of this month, so be sure to check back soon to see our next blog post!
